Tree Project with the Community Allotments

As part of the Lions Clubs International President's year in office all Lions Clubs throughout the world were challenged to plant 1 million trees in their areas. The figure was surpassed at a very early stage and now stands at  8,461,776  worldwide being planted.

Cheddar Vale Lions Club offered to purchase trees for Axbridge Community Allotments and Shipham Community Allotments and both groups had shopping lists of unusual trees such as Medlar, Peach and Quince.

From a District point of view (Somerset, Devon and Cornwall) our District Governor Clif Cane hoped something in the region of 1400 would be planted.  In fact to date 4014 have been planted throughout the area with many schools becoming involved using the project to study growth, species and also encourage the young people to look after their own tree.  Clubs throughout the whole of the UK and Ireland have planted 12,325 to date and it is hoped that the project will continue into the future.
